The Rewards of Performing Umrah Multiple Times
Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey that offers Muslims a unique opportunity to strengthen their faith, seek forgiveness, and experience the holiness of Makkah. Unlike Hajj, which is obligatory once in a lifetime for those who can afford it, Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage that can be performed multiple times. Each Umrah serves as a chance for self-purification, renewal of faith, and drawing closer to Allah.
Many believers choose to perform Umrah frequently because of the countless spiritual and personal benefits it brings. It is a moment to disconnect from worldly distractions, engage in deep reflection, and embrace the tranquility of being in the presence of the Kaaba. The sacred rituals, including Tawaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba) and Sa’i (walking between Safa and Marwah), provide a humbling experience, reminding pilgrims of their submission to Allah.
Frequent Umrah also fosters a sense of discipline, gratitude, and humility. It strengthens one’s connection to the Islamic heritage and allows believers to spend more time in the blessed land of Makkah. This article explores the many virtues of performing Umrah multiple times, highlighting how it enriches a Muslim’s spiritual journey and brings countless blessings in both this life and the Hereafter.
The Definition and Significance of Umrah
Umrah is often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage,” but its rewards and significance are immense. It consists of four primary rituals:
- Ihram – Entering the sacred state of purity
- Tawaf – Circumambulating the Kaaba
- Sa’i – Walking between Safa and Marwah
- Halq or Taqsir – Shaving or trimming the hair
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) encouraged Muslims to perform Umrah frequently, as it brings great rewards and serves as an expiation for sins.

Umrah as an Expiation for Sins
One of the greatest rewards of performing Umrah is that it serves as a means of forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Between one Umrah and another is the expiation of sins committed in between them.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 1773; Sahih Muslim, 1349)
This hadith clearly states that every time a person performs Umrah, their sins between the two Umrahs are erased. This means that if someone performs multiple Umrahs in their lifetime, they receive continuous forgiveness, making it a powerful act of spiritual renewal.
The Immense Reward of Umrah in Ramadan
Performing Umrah during the month of Ramadan carries an even greater reward. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Performing Umrah in Ramadan is equal (in reward) to Hajj with me.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 1782; Sahih Muslim, 1256)
This does not mean that performing Umrah in Ramadan replaces the obligation of Hajj, but it emphasizes the multiplied rewards that Allah grants during this blessed month. If a person performs Umrah in Ramadan multiple times, they attain even more blessings.
Continuous Rewards and Spiritual Elevation
Every act of worship done in the sacred land of Makkah brings multiplied rewards. The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned:
“One prayer in Masjid Al-Haram is equal to 100,000 prayers elsewhere.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 1406)
Since Umrah includes Tawaf and prayer in Masjid al-Haram, performing multiple Umrahs means continuously increasing one’s spiritual rewards.
Umrah Removes Poverty and Hardships
Performing Umrah multiple times is not only beneficial spiritually, but also brings worldly benefits. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Follow up Hajj and Umrah, for they remove poverty and sins just as a blacksmith’s furnace removes impurities from iron, gold, and silver.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 810; Sunan Ibn Majah, 2887)
This means that regularly performing Umrah can bring financial and spiritual prosperity, helping to remove difficulties from a person’s life.
Strengthening One’s Connection with Allah
Visiting the House of Allah multiple times strengthens one’s faith and devotion. Each journey brings a new spiritual awakening, reinforcing one’s relationship with Allah (SWT). The sacrifices, patience, and struggles undertaken during Umrah purify the soul and bring the believer closer to Allah.
Allah says in the Quran:
وَأَذِّن فِي ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًۭا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍۢ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍۢ
“And proclaim to the people the Hajj (pilgrimage); they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass.”
(Surah Al-Hajj 22:27)
Each time a person performs Umrah, they answer Allah’s call to visit His sacred house, which brings immense rewards and blessings.
Increased Opportunities for Dua Acceptance
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The pilgrim and the one performing Umrah are the delegation of Allah. If they call upon Him, He answers them, and if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 2892)
Since Umrah is a time of deep connection with Allah, those who perform it multiple times receive numerous chances for their prayers to be answered.
Conclusion
Performing Umrah multiple times is a deeply rewarding spiritual journey that brings numerous blessings in this life and the Hereafter. Each Umrah serves as an expiation for past sins, an opportunity for personal purification, and a means to draw closer to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized its great virtue, stating that frequent Umrah removes sins and eliminates poverty, making it both a spiritual and worldly blessing.
The significance of performing Umrah in Ramadan is even greater, as the Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned that its reward is equivalent to performing Hajj with him. This highlights the immense benefits of seizing the opportunity to perform Umrah multiple times whenever possible.
Beyond the spiritual benefits, multiple Umrahs allow pilgrims to experience the tranquility of the Holy Cities, strengthen their connection with Allah, and engage in increased acts of worship. It also fosters a sense of unity and humility among Muslims, reinforcing the bonds of the Ummah.
For those who have the means and ability, performing Umrah multiple times is a chance to renew faith, cleanse the soul, and seek Allah’s infinite mercy. May Allah grant all believers the opportunity to visit His sacred house repeatedly and accept their worship. Ameen.
