سورة البقرة – 2:183

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”

The goal of fasting is taqwa, or God-consciousness, which purifies the soul and sharpens one’s focus on the ultimate purpose of life. “وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ”

This verse illustrates that Allah (SWT) is aware of our inner struggles and anxieties, and fasting provides a means of seeking relief by increasing one’s trust in Allah’s plan. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

“There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time.”
رواه البخاري

“نِعْمَتَانِ مَغْبُونٌ فِيهِمَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ: الصِّحَّةُ وَالْفَرَاغُ”

By directing attention to Allah and engaging in acts of worship, the mind is freed from unnecessary stress, allowing for clearer thinking and emotional stability.
