Loss of Trust and Corruption Before the End

Loss of Trust and Corruption Before the End

The loss of trust (Amanah – الأمانة) and the rise of corruption (Fasad – الفساد) are among the most significant signs of the approaching Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyāmah – يوم القيامة). Islam emphasizes trust as a fundamental value, governing relationships, leadership, business, and justice. However, as the end times draw near, betrayal, dishonesty, and injustice will become widespread, leading to moral and social decay.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ foretold this decline in trust, saying:

“إِذَا ضُيِّعَتِ الْأَمَانَةُ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ”
“When trust is lost, then await the Hour.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6496)

Corruption will also spread across the world, affecting individuals, governments, and institutions. Allah (ﷻ) warns in the Qur’an:

﴿ ظَهَرَ ٱلْفَسَادُ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِى ٱلنَّاسِ ﴾
“Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people’s hands have done.”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:41)

This article explores the betrayal of trust, the spread of corruption, their impact on society, and how to protect ourselves using the guidance of the Qur’an and Sunnah. By understanding these signs, we can strive to uphold righteousness and safeguard ourselves from the trials of the end times.

The Concept of Trust (Amanah) in Islam

Trust is a Divine Responsibility

In Islam, trust (Amanah) is not just about honesty in transactions, but it includes every responsibility given to a person. Trust can be in wealth, leadership, family, work, and even religious duties.

Allah (ﷻ) says in the Qur’an:

﴿ إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا ٱلْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ ظَلُومًۭا جَهُولًۭا ﴾
“Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.”
(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:72)

This verse highlights the great weight of trust and how it is a test for mankind. Fulfilling trust is a sign of faith, while betrayal is a sign of hypocrisy.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“لَا إِيمَانَ لِمَنْ لَا أَمَانَةَ لَهُ، وَلَا دِينَ لِمَنْ لَا عَهْدَ لَهُ”
“The one who does not fulfill trust has no faith, and the one who does not keep his promise has no religion.”
(Sunan Al-Bayhaqi 5133)

This Hadith shows that trust and faith are deeply connected, and the loss of trust is a sign of moral decay.

Loss of Trust and Corruption Before the End

Betrayal of Trust Before the End Times

One of the clear signs of the approaching Day of Judgment is the widespread betrayal of trust (Amanah – الأمانة). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that as the end times draw near, trust will be lost, and dishonesty will become the norm in society.

In a powerful Hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“إِذَا ضُيِّعَتِ الْأَمَانَةُ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ”
“When trust is lost, then await the Hour.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6496)

Amanah (trust) is not limited to honesty in transactions; it includes leadership, promises, responsibilities, and justice. When people start placing unworthy individuals in positions of power, corruption spreads, and trust is betrayed.

Allah (ﷻ) commands in the Qur’an:

﴿ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا ٱلْأَمَٰنَٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا ﴾
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:58)

As society drifts away from righteousness, we see leaders abusing their power, friendships being broken due to dishonesty, and families suffering from betrayal. To safeguard ourselves, we must uphold honesty, fulfill our promises, and teach future generations the importance of trust, ensuring we remain among the truthful before the final hour arrives.

Characteristics of Those Who Betray Trust

The Spread of Corruption (Fasad) Before the End

As the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyāmah) approaches, corruption (Fasad – الفساد) will spread across the world, affecting individuals, societies, and governments. The Qur’an and Hadith warn that this moral and ethical decay will lead to widespread injustice, oppression, and destruction.

Allah (ﷻ) states in the Qur’an:

﴿ ظَهَرَ ٱلْفَسَادُ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِى ٱلنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُمْ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى عَمِلُوا۟ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ﴾
“Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people’s hands have done, so that He may let them taste some of what they have done, that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:41)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also warned:

“لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَكْثُرَ الْكَذِبُ، وَتَظْهَرَ الْفِتَنُ، وَيَكْثُرَ الْهَرْجُ”
“The Hour will not be established until lying becomes widespread, trials appear, and killing increases excessively.”
(Sahih Ibn Hibban 6761)

Corruption manifests in dishonest leadership, oppression, injustice, betrayal, and immorality. As society abandons trust and righteousness, chaos and destruction follow. Believers must strive to resist corruption by upholding honesty, justice, and faith in Allah (ﷻ) before the final hour arrives.

How to Protect Ourselves from Betrayal and Corruption

As corruption (Fasad – الفساد) and betrayal of trust (Amanah – الأمانة) increase in society, it is essential for believers to protect themselves by holding onto faith, honesty, and justice. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that near the end of times, deception, dishonesty, and injustice will spread. However, Islam provides guidance on how to remain steadfast.

Strengthening Faith (Iman) and Seeking Knowledge

Being Honest and Trustworthy in All Matters

Holding Leaders Accountable and Rejecting Corruption

Teaching the Next Generation about Trust and Responsibility

Making Sincere Du’a for Guidance and Protection

Conclusion

The loss of trust (Amanah) and the spread of corruption (Fasad) are among the clearest signs of the approaching Day of Judgment. As the world moves further from righteousness, dishonesty, betrayal, and injustice become widespread. Leaders will oppress, the dishonest will be honored, and deception will become the norm in society. These are not just warnings from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ but realities we witness today.

Allah (ﷻ) warns us in the Qur’an:

﴿ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا ٱلْأَمَٰنَٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا ﴾
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:58)

The Prophet ﷺ also said:

“إِذَا ضُيِّعَتِ الْأَمَانَةُ فَانْتَظِرِ السَّاعَةَ”
“When trust is lost, then await the Hour.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6496)

As believers, we must protect ourselves from dishonesty, uphold integrity, and strive for justice in all aspects of life. By holding onto faith, honesty, and righteousness, we can preserve trust and resist corruption. May Allah (ﷻ) make us among the trustworthy and protect us from the trials of the end times. Ameen.
