The First and Second Blowing of the Trumpet (Sur)
The First and Second Blowing of the Trumpet (As-Sur)
The blowing of the Trumpet (As-Sur) is one of the most monumental and terrifying events that will mark the end of the world and the beginning of the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah). It will be carried out by Angel Israfil (AS) at the command of Allah (SWT), and it will bring about the destruction of all creation before the resurrection of mankind for reckoning.
The Quran and Hadith describe that the Trumpet will be blown twice:
- The First Blow (نفخة الفزع والتصعق) – This will cause widespread fear, the collapse of the universe, and the death of all living beings.
- The Second Blow (نفخة البعث) – This will bring all humans back to life, as they emerge from their graves to stand before Allah (SWT) for judgment.
Allah (SWT) warns in the Quran:
“Then when the Trumpet is blown with a single blow.”
(Surah Al-Haqqah 69:13)
This event will shake the heavens and the earth, bringing an end to this worldly life. This blog will explore what happens when the Trumpet is blown, based on Quranic and Hadith references.
The First Blowing of the Trumpet: The End of the World
The first blowing of the Trumpet will signal the beginning of the end. This moment will be filled with fear, chaos, and destruction, as the entire universe will collapse.
Quranic Verses on the First Blow of the Trumpet
The Universe Will Collapse
Translation:
“Then when the Trumpet is blown with a single blow, and the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with a single blow, then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur.”
(Surah Al-Haqqah 69:13-15)
This verse describes how the entire earth and mountains will be shaken violently and reduced to dust, signaling the end of the world.
Every Living Being Will Perish
Translation:
“And the Trumpet will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and the earth will fall dead, except whom Allah wills.”
(Surah Az-Zumar 39:68)
This Quranic verse confirms that all living beings in the heavens and the earth will die instantly when the Trumpet is blown, except for those whom Allah wills to remain alive.
The Sun and Stars Will Lose Their Light
Translation:
“When the sun is wrapped up in darkness, and when the stars fall and scatter.”
(Surah At-Takwir 81:1-2)
This describes how the sun will lose its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, further emphasizing the complete destruction of the universe.
The Second Blowing of the Trumpet: Resurrection and Judgment (نفخة البعث)
After the destruction of everything, there will be a period of time known only to Allah (SWT). Then, the Trumpet will be blown a second time, and all human beings will be resurrected from their graves for reckoning.
Quranic Verses on the Second Blow of the Trumpet
Resurrection of the Dead
Translation:
“Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.”
(Surah Az-Zumar 39:68)
This verse confirms that all humans will be brought back to life, standing and waiting for Allah’s judgment.
People Will Rise from Their Graves
Translation:
“And the Trumpet will be blown, and at once they will rush from their graves to their Lord.”
(Surah Yasin 36:51)
This Quranic verse describes how people will rise from their graves, rushing towards the place of judgment, realizing that the Day of Reckoning has arrived.
The Impact of the Trumpet on Humanity
The blowing of the Trumpet will be a moment of immense fear and accountability. Every person will be standing before Allah (SWT), awaiting judgment for their deeds.
Hadith on the Fear of That Day
Translation:
Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet (PBUH): “Will a man remember his family on the Day of Judgment?”
The Prophet (PBUH) replied: “O Aisha, in three moments, he will not remember them: at the weighing of deeds, when receiving the record of deeds, and when crossing the Sirat (bridge over Hell).”
(Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 25565)
This Hadith shows how terrifying the Day of Judgment will be, as each person will be deeply concerned with their own fate rather than their family.
Conclusion
The blowing of the Trumpet (As-Sur) is one of the most frightening and inevitable events in the history of creation. It will signal the end of life, the destruction of the universe, and the beginning of the Day of Judgment. With the first blow, all life will be wiped out, and the entire cosmos will collapse. With the second blow, every human being will be resurrected from their graves and will stand before Allah (SWT) for judgment.
Allah (SWT) describes this in the Quran:
“And the Trumpet will be blown, and at once they will rush from their graves to their Lord.”
(Surah Yasin 36:51)
This final event serves as a reminder for all of us to prepare for the Hereafter by repenting, performing good deeds, and seeking Allah’s mercy before it is too late. May Allah (SWT) grant us a good ending and success on the Day of Judgment. Ameen.
