How Sins Will Increase Before Qiyamah
How Sins Will Increase Before Qiyamah
The signs of Qiyamah (the Day of Judgment) are numerous, and among the most alarming aspects of the end times is the increase in sins. In Islam, the increase in corruption, immorality, and disobedience to Allah (SWT) is considered a precursor to the arrival of Qiyamah. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) warned about a time when sinful behavior would become widespread, and the moral fabric of society would degrade. This blog post explores how sins will increase before Qiyamah, supported by Quranic verses and Hadiths in both Arabic and English. We will look into the types of sins that will prevail, the reasons for their increase, and the warnings given by Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ).
The Increase of Sins Before Qiyamah: A Quranic Perspective
Moral Decay and Disobedience to Allah
In the Quran, Allah (SWT) speaks about the inevitable rise of sin and corruption as the world moves closer to its end. One of the key themes highlighted is the disobedience of people, where they will disregard the commands of Allah and engage in sinful actions. In Surah An-Nisa, Allah reminds us of the consequences of abandoning His commandments:
وَمَن يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَهُ يُدْخِلْهُ نَارًا خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَلَهُ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
(سورة النساء 4:14)
Translation:
“And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits will be admitted to a Fire to abide therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:14)
This verse highlights the severe consequences of sin and disobedience, and the increase of such disobedience will be evident as the world moves toward Qiyamah. The more people neglect their faith, the more they indulge in sin.
The Spread of Corruption
The Quran predicts that before Qiyamah, corruption will spread across the earth. People will become more inclined toward transgression, both publicly and privately. Allah (SWT) says:
Translation:
“Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:41)
This verse refers to the widespread corruption caused by human actions. Before Qiyamah, sins such as oppression, bribery, injustice, and immorality will become common, leading to widespread chaos and punishment.
The Increase of Sins According to the Hadiths
The Proliferation of Major Sins
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) warned that before Qiyamah, there would be an increase in the commission of major sins. In one narration, he mentioned that many of the signs of the end times would revolve around people indulging in sins that were previously considered taboo.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
Translation:
“Zina (fornication) will spread, such that men from my Ummah will commit it even in the mosques.”
(Narrated by Ibn Majah)
This Hadith foretells the increasing prevalence of zina (fornication) as society moves closer to the Day of Judgment. What was once regarded as a shameful act will be widespread, and people will not hesitate to commit such sins openly.
The Deterioration of Morality
As Qiyamah approaches, morality will deteriorate, and people will engage in sinful behavior without remorse. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) described this deterioration of ethics and integrity:
لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ الْمَالُ فَيْضًا فِيهْلِكُ فَضَاءَهُ
(رواه مسلم)
Translation:
“The Hour will not come until wealth becomes abundant and overflowing, and people will compete in acquiring wealth.”
(Narrated by Muslim)
This Hadith highlights how materialism and the pursuit of wealth will overshadow spiritual concerns, leading people to prioritize worldly pleasures and neglect their moral duties. This shift will contribute to an increase in sins, as the focus moves away from Allah’s guidance.
The Spread of Hypocrisy
Before the arrival of Qiyamah, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) also warned about the rise of hypocrisy, both in actions and belief. People will claim to be Muslim but their actions will betray their faith. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
Translation:
“In the last times, there will be a trial where people will be affected in their hearts. They will gather and they will not recognize the one speaking with them. When they speak, they will say, ‘Let us recognize that through their evil.'”
(Narrated by Muslim)
This Hadith refers to the spiritual and moral decline where hypocrisy will take root in people’s hearts. People will pretend to be righteous but will act in ways that contradict the core teachings of Islam.
The Impact of Sinful Behavior on Society
Social and Moral Collapse
The increase of sins will lead to the collapse of societal values and morals. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
إِنَّ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ السَّاعَةِ وَفَجْأَتِهَا وَالْبَلَاءِ فِي السُّوءِ
(رواه الترمذي)
Translation:
“Among the greatest signs of the Hour is the suddenness and the spread of corruption.”
(Narrated by At-Tirmidhi)
As the corruption spreads, society will witness a breakdown in family structures, justice systems, and moral standards. There will be an increase in crimes such as theft, murder, dishonesty, and deceit, and people will lose their sense of righteousness.
The Rise of Evil and Oppression
As sinful behavior becomes more prevalent, oppression will increase, and the weak will suffer. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) mentioned that the corrupt rulers would play a significant role in the spread of injustice:
وَيَظْهَرُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ فِتْنَةٌ فِي قُدَمِهِ فِي زَخْرَفٍ وَحْدَكُ فِي يَسَارٍ فَمَا يَحْدِثُكُمْ وَيَمْلِكُ فَكُلُّ رُؤْسَائِهِ
(رواه أحمد)
Translation:
“There will appear in the last times a trial in the path of wealth, where people will be tempted by material gain and corrupted by their desires. They will control everything in the earth, and they will govern their lands through oppression and injustice.”
(Narrated by Ahmad)
This Hadith predicts that materialism and greed will lead to an increase in oppression, where the powerful exploit the weak, and society becomes riddled with inequality.
Conclusion
As the Day of Judgment approaches, sins will increase in magnitude, variety, and frequency. The Quran and Hadith warn us about the moral and spiritual decay that will be rampant during the end times. From widespread corruption, immorality, and hypocrisy, to the rise of oppression and the disregard for justice, the signs of the approaching Qiyamah are clear.
However, as Muslims, we must not be passive in the face of these warnings. Instead, we are urged to engage in self-reflection, repentance, and commitment to righteousness. We must strive to protect our hearts from becoming hardened by sin, to encourage good behavior in society, and to remind others of the consequences of their actions.
The increase of sins before Qiyamah serves as a powerful reminder for us to stay vigilant, humble, and repentant, seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and striving to live a life that pleases Him.
May Allah (SWT) protect us from the fitnah of the end times and guide us towards righteousness. Ameen.
