“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them are the gardens of Paradise, as a lodging, to abide therein.”
(Surah Al-Kahf: 107)

The verse highlights that belief and righteous deeds, even if they seem small, are the foundation for the great reward of Paradise. It underscores that actions, regardless of their size, when done with sincerity, are recognized and rewarded by Allah.

The Power of the Tongue in Small Deeds

The tongue, while small, can have a profound impact. A kind word, a dua (supplication), or a remembrance of Allah can yield great rewards. The Quran mentions:

وَقُولُوا۟ لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًۭا
_”And speak to people good.”*
(Surah Al-Baqarah: 83)

The smallest act of kindness, like speaking well to others, has a profound effect on both the individual and society. A simple greeting of peace, saying “Assalamu Alaikum,” or offering encouragement can build goodwill and earn one immense rewards.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

إِنَّ فِي جَسَدِ بْنِ آدَمَ لُمُضْغَةًۭ إِذَا صَلَحَتْ صَلَحَ سَائِرُ جَسَدِهِۦ وَإِذَا فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ سَائِرُ جَسَدِهِۦ
“Indeed, in the body, there is a piece of flesh, and when it is sound, the entire body is sound. And when it is corrupted, the entire body is corrupted. That piece is the heart.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 52)

A good intention, expressed through small acts like a smile, a greeting, or a good word, emanates from the heart. These are small deeds that are often easy to perform but carry immense rewards in the sight of Allah.

مَن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُۥۚ وَلَهُۥٓ أَجْرٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ
“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward?”
(Surah Al-Hadid: 11)

The smallest amount of charity, even a single coin, when given with a sincere heart, can be multiplied by Allah, leading to a significant reward in the Hereafter.

The Reward for Saying “SubhanAllah”

One of the simplest forms of remembrance of Allah is the phrase “SubhanAllah” (Glory be to Allah). This small phrase carries immense rewards when recited regularly.

“And exalt Him morning and afternoon.”
(Surah Al-Ahzab: 42)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

مَنْ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِۦ مِائَةًۭ فِي يَوْمٍۢ غُفِرَ لَهُۥ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِۦ
“Whoever says ‘SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi’ 100 times a day, his sins will be forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”*
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 6405)

Even a simple remembrance like this can erase the sins of the day and bring a person closer to Allah, showing how small actions lead to enormous rewards.

Hadiths About the Rewards of Small Deeds

“Indeed, the most beloved of you to me and the closest to me on the Day of Judgment are those who have the best character.”

A simple smile, a kind word, and patience in interactions—small yet profound acts—can have great rewards in the Hereafter. In this Hadith, the Prophet emphasizes that good character, even in its simplest form, is incredibly valuable in the sight of Allah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Your smile in the face of your brother is an act of charity.”

Helping Others

Even the smallest act of helping someone can bring reward. Whether it’s holding the door open, offering a seat, or helping a neighbor, these actions can have a profound impact.

مَنْ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِالْوُجُودِ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ فِي رَحْمَتِهِۦ وَيُحْسِنُ حُسْنًا
“Whoever does not believe in good does not have the reward from Allah; indeed Allah is in His mercy and gives excellence in kindness.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah)
